Designing digital experiences

I work with companies to create user interfaces that are simple to use and tested with real users. This ensures that the designs delight users and meet the goals of the business.

Understanding the user experience

I help companies understand the psychology of their users, their needs and behaviours through user experience design. This test-driven approach helps me understand how to optimise a digital product.

The shameless self-promotion bit

This is a bit awkward... But over the years, I've had my fair share of failures and setbacks. These experiences provide me with learnings and insights that help me create better products. They also allow me to speak and write about those experiences.

A strong technical background.

I have attained a First Class BSc (Hons) in Software Systems Development from the Waterford Institute of Technology with a 1.1 grade. This helps me to design products that are both usable and technically feasible.

I've won awards.

As a leader of DoneDeal's apps, I turned 2-star apps into 5-star award-winning apps. Over two million people in Ireland have downloaded the apps.

An advocate of principles.

I advocate leveraging User-Centered Design, Lean, and Agile principles to create digital products. This learning mindset empowers me to explore solutions to the problem, create the right solution and build it right.

Designing apps since 2012.

Back in 2012 I created and developed an app for public transport commuters in Ireland. This app went on to win the Sun Life Enterprise Award. Which is for final year projects that demonstrate a strong commercial potential.

My process for designing

I follow a design thinking iterative approach that is deeply collaborative with both clients and their users.

1. Understand

I work closely with clients to understand the problem, the business goals, the users and their needs. The purpose of this phase is to fully understand the project goals.

2. Envision

After we fully understand the goals of the project, we’ll generate ideas to meet those goals. We do this by rapidly brainstorming ideas and then evaluating them to choose the one that best satisfies our goals.

3. Prototype & Test

Now that we’ve got an excellent idea, we’re gonna design and build a prototype so that we can test our solution with real users. Once the concept is validated it is ready to be developed, launched and monitored.

The reason this approach works

Designing for digital products is entirely different than designing physical products. Unlike physical, digital products allow us to monitor their effectiveness and adapt it with minimal costs. Helping us to know what works and what doesn’t work. So we need to shift our mindset to always want to learn and try new things.
